About Kashmir
A name when softly murmured stirs the memories of bygone Golden
Ages - Alexander, Ashoka, Akbar...
Kashmir! The whisper evokes a
portrait of beauty: the stunning snow capped peaks of the
Himalayas: flower strewn valleys dazzling the eye with all the
colors of the rainbows and lakes, with floating gardens, teeming
with wildlife.
History has played a decisive role in shaping this beauty. The
love for Kashmir by the Mughal Emperor Jehangir was legendary and
he followed the example of his predecessors and planted a unique
pleasure garden. Melodiously flowing waters, cool pavilions and
shady trees make the gardens a joy to wander. Mughal names evoke
romance and passion - Shalimar, Nishat, Achhabal and Chesmashahi.
Above all Kashmir has a strong spiritual essence; the
aura of the surrounding beauty makes it a place to commune closely
with nature and ones inner being. Buddhism, Hinduism and
Islam have all left their indelible marks. There are many Pilgrimages
sites to visit including the Shankaracharya Temple dedicated to
Lord Shiva, Chart Padshahi Gurudwara - an important Sikh shrines,
the Jama Masjid in Srinagar and the Kheer Bhavani Temple,
Amarnath
Caves and Baba Rishi. All bring peace and contentment to the
Pilgrim.
Today tourists are beginning to realize that modern
Kashmir, is once again, becoming a place to unwind - Kashmir
offers some of the finest trekking in the world. Skiing in winter,
golf in summer and of course, relaxation on the delightful Dal
and
Nagin Lakes.

Surrounded by snowcapped mountains the air is clear and fresh. In
summer play golf, pony trek or ride the exciting Gondola to the
high slopes, in winter, as India's premier ski resort, Gulmarg
becomes a true 'Winter Wonderland' with skiing and snow boarding.

Gulmarg's charm stems from the fact that it offers the visitor a
chance to set his own pace be it a lazy relaxing holiday or a
strenuous trek or game of golf. All through the summer one can go on
walks or pony rides of varying lengths, or have rounds of golf on
the famed 18 hole course. In winter, snow covered slopes attract
skiers from all over the world. Not surprisingly, Gulmarg's year
round popularity reaches its peak at summer, when the highest
temperature is 25. Buses, taxis even a helicopter ply between
Tourist Reception Center, Srinagar, and Gulmarg a distance of 56 Km.

Pahalgam - "The Valley of Shepard's " - is 2130

locations, as it is a favorite venue for Filmmakers. It is also the
starting point for the Amarnath Yatra.

Pahalgam spreads along the banks of the Lidder, which is the
focal point of interest to the angler. The trout fisherman delight,
the Lidder is divided into three fishing beats between Mattan and
Phalgham, and the trout are so thick that even the first time
fisherman can land a good catch. Pahalgam is perhaps best known as
the take off point for trek into the surrounding mountains. The
resort is well geared to meet the demands at onward going trekkers
